I discovered lapbooking several years ago. Though we do not always have a lapbook in progress, we like to make at least one or two a year to add variety to our school day. Over the years my children have completed lapbooks of their own design, as well as lapbooks constructed using mini books that I found free on-line, and lapbooks purchased from several different lapbook companies.
Despite our lapbooking experience, I had not heard of A Journey Through Learning until I received five of their lapbooks to review. I received:
- Reptiles
- Amphibians
- Autumn
- The Desert
- The Parables of Jesus
These lapbooks are well-designed and have some features that I’ve not seen in those designed by other companies.
- Each page in the study guide goes with a specific mini-booklet. The mini-booklets are contained within the study guide rather than having them all at the end.
- There is a very handy placement key for each mini-booklet. (example below)
- The instructions for constructing the lapbook are very clear with color photographs.
- There is a nice variety in the types of mini-booklets.
- There is variety in difficulty of the mini-booklet content.
- Many of the mini-booklets are in color.
My 9 year old daughter and 7 year old son both worked on the Reptile lapbook. I chose it because my son is very interested in reptiles, and reptiles are among the creatures we had planned to study in our zoology course. I selected the mini-booklets that were applicable to our reading.
We learned the names of the orders in the reptile family.
We also learned the characteristics of all reptiles.
Here’s another page of completed booklets.
The Reptile Lapbook and many more are available for purchase at A Journey Though Learning. The price for most of their lapbooks is
$13.00 for instant download,
$14.00 for CD, or
$21.00 for a printed copy.
I am glad that I had the opportunity to review these lapbooks. A Journey Through Learning produces high quality lapbooks on a wide variety of topics for a good price.
