I don’t know why, but it doesn’t take much to get me overstressed about things.  I will be so glad when this week is over.  Tomorrow the kids have book club where they are presenting an original poem and reciting another poem of their choice. The poems are written and illustrated, but we’re still working on memorizing.  On Thursday afternoon, my older son is in a spelling bee.  We are not anywhere close to going over all the words and there is no way we will be by then.  I mainly just wanted him to do it for the experience, but I hope it is not so bad that he never wants to do it again!  Then after the spelling bee, (well actually during but I’ll be late) the kids have their music class at church.  Friday afternoon they have an art class.  Saturday morning I have a bible study and my parents are coming in around lunch time for my daughter’s 8th birthday celebration.  Which means in addition to all the extra activities and regular activities, I also have to clean my house (especially the downstairs where they will sleep which is a mess!), bake a cake, and make dinner for my family and dh family on Saturday evening.  Not to mention that Sunday morning I have nursery duty and dh is ushering.  HELP!

  1. It is so easy to get over-committed. You pick one thing and then another. They are little things, well, little when you think about each one individually. When put together, they have you out almost more than you are home! After about 2 months, you stop and think, "how did I get here???" There is no easy answer. I have found that I look at my motivation. Why do I want to do this or put my children into it? Is it to better them? It is for "exposure"? Then I have to measure it, do these things really serve the purposes and the time that they have us committed to?

Now, to be honest, we are very "under-committed". I have found that taking advantage of everything available does nothing more than make me busy and my children crabby. Those are the two things that I remember when I am deciding what to do.

    Hope my rambling helps!

  2. I'm one who gets over-committed easily. When an opportunity comes up, I think that it would be great for the kids and us to get involved. Or we will want to participate in something and before I know it, my calendar is filled with colors, notes, and reminders! And the funny thing is, somehow I have time to blog… 🙂 Hang in there – your week will pass and then you can be amazed that you survived it, then promise yourself to never do that again, and then do it again. Will we ever learn? 🙂
