I heard a sermon many years ago where the preacher posed the question, "Do you have a song in your heart?"  I don’t remember much else about the message. But I do remember the repeated question about having a song in your heart.

The LORD [is] my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.

Psalm 28:7

The point that I have remembered all these years, is that when Christ comes into our life, He will give us a new song. The fleshly song of whining and complaining is replaced with a song of praise for Him.

Over the years I’ve noticed something else on a practical level.

You can’t really sing and be unhappy at the same time.

And some people are always making music.

I just finished making cookies with my older daughter and my younger son. My son (7) is very often humming. He stood next to me and unwrapped Hershey kisses while humming We Wish You a Merry Christmas the whole time

It was so precious.

  1. My Ian is like that – he is ALWAYS singing! We joke that he's going to be onstage someday. Who knows? He is a happy little guy, for the most part.
