Yesterday we went to Charlotte for my older children’s first ever 4H presentations at District Activity Day.
My daughter’s presentation was on candle making.
My son talked about Digital Photo Manipulation.
Both of them were awarded Bronze medals for their category and age group. (I won’t mention how many they were competing against, but it was >2 and <4.) I learned a lot about the expectations for the presentations by watching the others. I will definitely be able to coach them better for next year.
Between lunch and the awards presentation, we headed to the airport observation area. We got to see lots of planes take off and land in just 30 minutes. The kids had never been to an airport before, so I consider that part of the field trip.
After District Activity Day was over, we decided that since we were in Charlotte, we’d head to Discovery Place. The last time we were there, there were a few new exhibits that would be opening soon. Some of them were open. They had an interesting exhibit on bacteria,
a new creativity area, a frog exhibit, a 3D movie on sharks, and a Kid’s Room we hadn’t seen before.
It was a nice way to finish our day. Except that the museum closes at 5. Downtown Charlotte at 5 pm is NOT a good place to be. The traffic was quite busy to say the least!

Fantastic. I remember District Events very well. I just found a FB page to re-connect with all my state-wide 4-H friends from the ’80s (gadzooks!)good times!
Congrats to your kids! My middle son did his presentation today and got a gold so he is on to the state competition. 4H is wonderful for the kids with all the programs they have – enjoy your summer!
Congratulations to your children! What a wonderful experience for them. The Discovery Place in Charlotte sounds a lot like the Imaginarium in Anchorage, AK. My boys always enjoy it and learn so much.
God bless,
Jenny
Hi! I’m visiting from the TOS Crew. I love your blog. The design is very cool to the eyes.
Congratulations on your kids winning. It looks like you had a great day!
What a great job they did! I hope we can do that next year. Such a great experience for them. Loved all your pictures. I have been having trouble loading pictures, keeps saying they are too big. Real frustrating…How are you doing it?

What a wonderful experience for them. I bet they learned a great deal.
Blessings,

I’ve often thought if we settled down it would be good for the kids to participate in 4-H- in part, for the public speaking experience. Congratulations to your children on their accomplishment! I think I could learn a thing or two about the digital photo manipulation! Blessings!:)
Hey, if I can turn sitting in a parking lot drinking starbucks while my kids watch a construction project into a field trip, you totally can turn an airport visit into one!
