AzaleasIt must be something about the season. It’s spring here. The trees are getting green, the azaleas are just about ready to bloom. Everything is fresh and new. I love it! It gets me in the planning and organizing mood.

It’s not just the house I want to organize. I’m so ready to start planning our next year of school. Unfortunately we haven’t finished this year. I know that I’m not alone in this. I’d much rather start thinking about next year than do what it takes to finish up this year. Admittedly, I do NEED to do some planning for next year before I go to our state homeschool conference. But that’s not until Memorial Day weekend. I really don’t need to start yet. So before I start thinking about next year’s “stuff”, I am going to evaluate this year.

Here’s what I’m going to do:

1. Administer achievement tests for 2 older children next week. (That is a state requirement. Not really necessary for those of you who don’t have to do it.)

2. Get all my homeschool record paperwork up-to-date. This includes marking the special attendance sheets that the state requires me to keep on file.

3. Look at everything each of my children are currently working on. See where they are and if they can or should finish the course this year.

4. Have my children complete a Homeschool Evaluation.

What is a Homeschool Evaluation? It’s something I’m trying out this year. I want to get more of my kids’ input into how and what they’re learning. I shared my questions in Homeschool Evaluation Part 2.
